A single-point dresser is a stationary single-point diamond tool for the targeted conditioning of grinding wheels. It is used for controlled and reproducible profiling, sharpening ("tearing"), dimensional dressing or micro-geometries - from rough dressing to finishing.

Exclusion (clear): Not suitable for dressing CBN or diamond grinding wheels.

  • Infeed (a_d): Corundum 0.01 - 0.03 mm; fine grain < 0.01 mm
  • Feed rate (f_d): Fine dressing for surface quality vs. coarse dressing for grip
  • Overlap: Ratio of feed rate to tip radius as the main variable
  • Influence: Tip radius has a direct effect on the resulting workpiece roughness Rz

Thermal & cooling

  • Carbonization during dry running critical from ~700 °C
  • Cooling jet must be on the diamond tip before contact begins (high-pressure cooling)

    • up to Ø 200 mm → 0.33 ct

    • Ø 450 mm → 1.00-1.25 ct
  • Service life factors: Natural (1x) / CVD (1.5 - 2x) / MKD (2 - 3x)
